Home Sustainability: Go Green & Save Money with State Government Rebates

In researching the post about federal government rebates for water tanks and hot water systems. I realised that most of our state governments are offering independent rebates and incentives for Australian households. For example:

between 15 January 2010 and 30 June 2011 the NSW State Government will be providing rebates up to $1500 per household for water wise purchases such as:

  • 4 Star Duel Flush Toilet system ($200)
  • Hot Water Circulator ($150)
  • 5 Star washing Machine ($150)

As well as $300 to switch from electric to solar, heat pump or gas hot water systems.

A rainwater tank rebate is also in place, and the amount of the rebate is dependent on the size of the tank and it’s connection to mains supply. A 2000 litre tank, connected to toilet and washing machine would see a rebate of $1,150. The same size tank not connected to the mains supply would see the rebate drop to $150.

The Queensland Government is establishing arrangements with a number of companies to supply high quality solar water heaters for an affordable customer payment of $500 or $100 for eligible pensioners and low-income earners.

Out-of-pocket expenses for non-standard installations will need to be met by the participants.

“The Program encourages the replacement of energy intensive electric storage hot water systems with greenhouse friendly solar water heaters. Installing a solar water heater will offer households energy savings of up to 25 per cent and cut household greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30 per cent.”
