Entrecard Wall of Shame!
11 Feb
Today I was making my drops, minding my own business when I saw Suspect Droppers On Entrecard post on Buyer Beware. It directed me to what I am calling the Entrecard Wall of Shame on Cornymans Money-Blog.
Go ahead, click the links and see the results of the experiment he conducted on his best travel pictures blog. In a nutshell he removed the entrecard widget and yet received drops on his inbox over two days from more than 60 different Entrecard members.
It’s sad these people consider their time so much more valuable than everyone else’s it’s also sad that they’re frequently listed on top droppers lists. I’ll not be dropping on most of these. From now on I’ll stick with my favourites list and add to it by the new blogs I find advertsing on my favourites.
Some more interesting reading on the subject on the Entrecard Blog and over at Orient Lodge

Woooh! I didn’t know about this until I read the linked post. Has this been proven already? Has Entrecard acted on these alleged ’scammers’?

I see you are another one to jump on “Cornyman’s” bandwagon without knowing what is going on. I am on his list, and do not know why,.. or even have the first clue how to go about making “fake drops”. I visit each site that I have dropped cards on in the past, and often received an “invalid” message on the widget when trying to make a drop,.. which means EC has glitches in their system, and for all anyone knows at this point, I along with many of the other people on “Cornyman’s” list can be showing up as non-visitors because of that.
I doubt you will publish my comment, just as “Cornyman” will not publish my comments I tried to make on his blog. After I send this message, I will report your blog to EC for violating their terms of service, just as I have with “Cornyman’s” blog.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
If the widget was not there how did you drop on it and receive an invalid message?
As for reporting my blog for violating the EC TOS – go ahead. If non traffic is the kind of traffic I will miss out on as well as all the bouncy drop and run’s it really, sadly not worth the time I put in everyday.
Regards,
Robyn
WTF, I knew something was up. I need to visit, corneyman, haven’t been there yet.
This is absolutly FU’d! Is it really up to us, to police these matters? Who the flip, is in charge over at EC? Can we real bloggers, tell EC to FO, is there another place to go? Can we start one ourselves? I’m new, but it’s kinda BS, that a site, for bloggers, doesn’t have their own blog!
A short while back, I was sited for having a pop-up, on my site, from entrecard. It turned out this PU only would PU, once a month, yet they found me. But, can’t nuke, these spammerpukes?
We need to join, a “movement”, to get to the bottom of this!
Toodles, to ya Robyn

I’ve posted a few comments over at Martin’s blog and a few other places on this story. While I deplore cheating and have many concerns about EntreCard and some of its users, I think it is dangerous to make the leap that the people who have shown up on the list were deliberately cheating.
For more of my thoughts on this, stop by and my blog and read some of my evaluation.

Hi Aldon,
I read and appreciate your comment at Martin’s blog. I read them all. Did you read T’s comment from guitarbench? I will certainly stop by your blog later today and read your thoughts.
I know Entrecard has glitches but never ever have I been able to drop on a blog where there was no widget. I have in fact sent messages to users about it in the past. Why were some able to drop and not so many others?
Not that anyone would be particularly devastated but I think I’ll be leaving Entrecard as my time is as valuable as those who drop without visiting.
Robyn
PS. Aldon – an excellent post on your blog, waiting for approval so I can comment
Here go Robyn, this is from EC terms of service…
“You represent, warrant and agree that no content or materials of any kind posted, transmitted, or shared by you on the Site will violate or infringe upon the rights of any third party (including copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other personal or proprietary rights) or contain unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, inflammatory, harassing, vulgar, obscene, hateful, defamatory, libelous, or fraudulent material. The Company may, but is not obligated to, review the Site and may delete or remove any content without notice.”
Did you catch the part about defamatory, and libelous? Martins silly test is extremely flawed and has not been proven to be “fact” in any sense of the word. The “invalid” occurs on many widgets and it is something that EC is already aware of, I was only stating that there are glitches with their widgets.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the TOS. As stated earlier I don’t care if you report my blog to EC.
The only reasonable explanation I have seen is that from Atniz regarding the time on the first day. If this is a possible reason for your inclusion on the list I will support you. If you are there both days I’m afraid I can’t. If someone on the list says ” Yeah, busted I was using a method that’s really not cool or fair becasue I didn’t have the time” then I will applaud and support their honesty also.
“It is a pity that you do not have the decency to remove this post”
I just want the discussion to be as widespread as possible and I am doing what I believe is the best way to aid that. However I don’t have time to make 300 drops so at best I usually only have around 80 Entrecarders drop on by.
Robyn
Robyn, I simply do not know how I ended up on Martins list. I have actually visited his blog and read of few of his posts, unlike many EC blogs where I just visit to make a drop and leave. If I am wrongly on his list, then there must be others wrongly there as well. It is a pity that you do not have the decency to remove this post, as it is hurting innocent people. Martin has generated a lot of traffic to his blog with his overreaction to something he has no proof of, and I doubt he will be removing his post on this subject any time soon.
Robyn, please read Entrecard’s reply to the matter here http://entrecard.com/blog/ They acknowledge that there were some problems, and some member may have been seeing Martin’s EC widget due to their browser cache. To Martins credit, he has removed my card from his list, but anyone who has seen it on his blog may think that I am “fake dropping” if I visit their blog to make a drop in the future. Just be thankful that you did not mistakenly end up on his list, and that is all I have to say.
Paul,
Thanks for the link to the Entrecard Blog post. I am happy with Entrecard’s response to the ghost dropper script.
For the record I believe the experiment had flaws I wish he had conducted it over several blogs for 4 or 5 days. What I am interested in is opening up the discussion as I do believe that many, many, many of these blogs were “fake dropping” and that the practise should be shut down.
“Just be thankful that you did not mistakenly end up on his list, and that is all I have to say.”
I never clear my cache and yet if there is no widget I can not drop; however I do think that Entrecard’s time system could definitely have played a part in “capturing” some genuine droppers and I believe that now the script has been shut down the genuine droppers will continue to have drops reciprocated. Those that where cheating will become a whole lot less popular really quickly now that they will be forced to drop manually.
If I was listed I would argue tooth and nail that there was a flaw but I still would not want the discussion shut down. I am sure that the fact that I never make more than 150 drops (mostly around 120) and this week around 50 and that I comment regularly on a wide variety of blogs would prove a lot to those that matter to me. Since making 300 drops and having that reciprocated is not important to me I would not be devastated.
I believe that this will not harm you or website, or any who have really made their EC drops by actually visiting – if you left you’re link I’d have dropped on you already.
Robyn
Well now it seems I have to take back my “and that is all I have to say.” Robyn, it is very time consuming to make over a hundred drops in a day, and it takes a really long time to make 300, but I have done it without cheating, more than a few times. When I want to make my card drops for the day, I usually visit my top droppers first, and then those who are shown on my dashboard for making recent drops. The fastest way I have found to make a lot of drops is to click on the ads which appear on the Entrecard widget, and go from widget, to widget to widget,.. Dropping like that opens a new browser window each time, and when they fill my computer screen I close all of them, and start over again. That methods speeds things up a lot, and it helps people in two ways, first they get the credit from your drop, and second their EC ranking improves because someone clicked on a EC advertisement that appeared on their blog.
Lately I have been thinking that all this bouncing around does more harm than good, as Google penalizes blogs and other websites that have high bounce rates. With that thought, and after Martin’s post, my EC ranking is sure to drop because I will spend more time on Blog Catalog, giving blogs I enjoy good reviews.
P.S. I dropped on your widget without cheating :)

” and go from widget, to widget to widget.. That method speeds things up a lot, and it helps people in two ways, first they get the credit from your drop, and second their EC ranking improves because someone clicked on a EC advertisement that appeared on their blog.”
Exactly – you are adding value.
The bounce rate concerns me too which is why I am instead of increasing drops – reducing them, commenting and responding to comments more.
As being paid for reviews and advertising by numbers is not important to me, I’d much rather have 5 regulars who comment occassionally then 300 each day who just need to get their pic in as many inboxes as possible to get reciprocal droppers so they can fool advertisers.
That I believe is what it all comes down to. Entrecard has the opportunity to be more than that, but it will need to have an overhaul in order to do so.
Thanks for the drop and all the comments. Much appreciated. I believe I’ll stop by your site again tomorrow!
I’ve been reading about this on many blogs, and am not techy enough to understand any of it. If a widget isn’t there, how in the world can you drop? I did read someone goes into their cache to get the box to drop if it doesn’t show up on the blog…that too mean seems foolish. The person could in fact no longer be on EC. That also seems to take extra time? And that doesn’t seem kosher to me. I think I do see how one could drop from cache without knowing it because the computer hadn’t yet cleared…but that’s the extinct of my understanding.
I try to drop everyday, but am not always successful. I’ve always wondered how anyone could take enough time to do it every single day

Sandy I promise to message you explaining as best I can – tomorrow – I have had enough today :)
Not sure if Atniz dropped the card seconds before i deleted the widget or if it was in her cache.
I deleted the widget around 20 minutes after the Resets of the drops and looked who dropped until that time (this have been 7 members which i didn’t show on my blog), Atniz was the first to show up. As i don’t know if there is a specific time frame when EntreCard shows the cards in my inbox and the actual drop, i deleted her card now.
The title is provocative for sure, this lead many members to be angry with these droppers and perhaps NOT READING my whole post but just looking at the pics of the members.
I wrote that they have to judge it for themselves if it can be or if they like to dump them as i knew that many member on the list interact with OTHER BLOGS but never commented on the travel blog in the past.
I would have loved to make the experiment for a longer time but like i said after less than 2 full days the blog got deleted from the EntreCard system (faster than any other blog) but it was re-instated again very fast (within 3 1/2 hours). Other members get sometimes a red warning that the EC-widget can’t be found and you should resolve this within 24 hours but this didn’t happen in my case.

Hi Martin
Please see the latest post for my response. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, I realise the last couple of days must have been very very hectic. I appreciate your time.
Kind Regards
Robyn
Ah, another one walking behind one that screams as hard as he can.
I bet he’s happy with all the linky love.
I’m not going to comment on his site. He should get his facts straight.
I assume the future will tell that I’m not to blame. Nor are others of our autism team to blame.
It’s dusgusting that he’s retweeting our twitterposts and at the same time dragging our good names through the mud.
An,
I read somewhere that your autism group had read instructions on the “best way” to drop with speed to save bandwidth etc. It made me sad about the whole damn thing. It made me rethink what was important and what was not.
I wish you and your group all the best – sincerely, and think that it is all I can do.
